Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures certainly like David S. Goyer when they need a franchise refreshed. He’s worked on the three Batman films, came up with the idea (and script) for the new Superman movie, Man Of Steel, and now the companies have hired him to pen the script for their upcoming monster remake, Godzilla, according to Deadline.
Goyer isn’t the first screenwriter to have a go at Godzilla, as he will be reworking the original script by Dave Callaham. The writer’s brief is to apparently, approach the film and its characters in the most authentic manner possible”. That’s presumably another attempt on Warner’s part to say that this movie won’t be anything like the dreadful Roland Emmerich version, with previous reports saying they want to make the movie feel modern but stick to its original roots.
Back in January we reported that Monsters director Gareth Edwards is taking the helm on Godzilla. Back then it seemed a 2012 release was planned, but that’s seemingly increasingly unlikely, particularly as the scripting process is still ongoing, so we should probably expect this in 2013
