Bridemaids has been a huge success – it’s now the highest grossing R-rated female flick ever – and so Kristen Wiig, who starred in and co-wrote the movie, is now using the extra push she has in Hollywood to get a movie called Imogene off the ground. It’s a bit of a passion project for the actress (she’s been talking about it for well over a year), but the film got mired in financing problems. However Bridesmaids has helped with that a lot, and it’ll start shooting in New York in August.
Variety says that Wiig will play ‘a moderately successful New York playwright who stages a fake suicide attempt to win back her ex-boyfriend, only to end up being forced into the custody of her gambling-addict mother.’ She then starts to reconnect with her family.
Michelle Morgan has written the script, while Shari Springer Bergman and Robert Pulcini (American Splendor) will direct.
