The indie flick Robot & Frank is certainly getting itself a decent cast together, with two Variety reports letting us know that firstly Liev Schreiber, Jeremy Strong and Liv Tyler have signed up, and secondly that James Marsden will star as well. It certainly quite a bump up in the cast numbers, as Susan Sarandon and Frank Langella were the only ones previously announced.
Jake Schreier is directing the film about a curmudgeonly old man who leads a lonely life where his only friend is a librarian (Sarandon). Then his children install a robot to care for him, which sparks off an unlikely friendship and a plan to steal from a library. This puts the man up against a young architect (Strong) working to scan all the books at the institution. Marsden will play one of man’s sons, although it isn’t clear who Schreiber and Tyler will play.
It all sounds slightly unusual but potentially rather fun, as older actors rarely get to take the lead in movies with sci-fi elements (presumably because it’s felt older audiences don’t care about robots).
