Ed Norton has always been best when he’s on the edge and you can’t quite tell if he’s the good guy or bad guy (Primal Fear, American History X, Fight Club), but he’s rarely gone unapologetically villainous. That may well change though, as Variety reports that he’s in discussions to to fill that role in The Bourne Legacy.
Plot details are still being kept under wraps, so we don’t quite know that sort of bad guy Norton will be. All we do know is that despite having his name in the title, Jason Bourne will not appear in the film (although things are being kept open if Matt Damon ever wanted to return), with Jeremy Renner instead set to play another assassin trained in the same program that Bourne was part of. Rachel Weisz will also star as a member of covert goverment scheme that’s even more dangerous than the Treadstone one that brainwashed Bourne.
It’s still difficult to tell whether this reboot will work, but the cast is good, and it does have Tony Gilroy, who was involved in the scripts for the previous Bourne flicks and will direct this time around. The Bourne Legacy is currently due out August 2012.
