While a lot of movies seem to take eons to put together, others happen very fast. That seem to be the case with the aptly named Rush. We first heard about it a few weeks ago when Paul Greengrass was thinking about directing. He’s since passed on the project and Ron Howard has been in talks to take his place (although a deal is not yet signed).
Now the movie may have found one of its lead actor, as Deadline reports that Chris Hemsworth is in talks to play F1 driver James Hunt in the film, which is about the rivalry between Britain’s Hunt and Austria’s Niki Lauda in the 1970s. Things got serious during the 1976 season when Lauda’s car caught on fire during an August 1, 1976 race, which caused the driver to lose his right ear and lapse into a coma.
Peter Morgan (The Queen) has written the script, and it’s looking like Rush will shoot early next year. That means Hemsworth will be hoping to squeeze it in before Thor 2, which recently got a summer 2013 release date.
