A few weeks ago it was revealed that despite The Wolfman being a major flop and a generally rubbish movie, Universal thought there was still life in the potential franchise and so were setting up a reboot. Michael tabb had initially been set to write a straight sequel, but that’s being reworked into an original film that will hew closer to the 1941 monster movie.
Now it appears the movie has a director, as Moviehole reports that Louis Morneau will helm the flick. This isn’t exactly great new, as Morneau has had a less than distinguished career, directing the likes of Joy Ride 2 : Dead Ahead, The Hitcher II : Ive Been Waiting, Bats, and Retroactive, none of which have been on anyone’s top 10 lists ever.
It’s a slightly odd choice, as while it does mean the studio will have more control than they would with a better known, more powerful director, it’s far tougher to launch a franchise successfully without a strong director at the helm (which was true of Joe Johnston with the Wolfman, although studio interference didn’t help there either). Perhaps it’ll work out, but I doubt it. Either way, the plan is to start shooting this autumn.
