Although it wasn’t a masterpiece, Drew Barrymore got pretty good notices for her directorial debut, Whip It. Now it looks like she’s found a new movie to helm, as THR reports that she’s now onboard to produce and probably direct Heist Society, based on the novel by Ally Carter.
Warner Bros bought the book right last year after a fierce bidding war, but it’s taken until now for things to start to come together, with Barrymore signing on and Shauna Cross hired to write script. Cross also wrote Whip It (both the screenplay and the novel it was based on), as well as the upcoming What To Expect When You’re Expecting.
Heist Society is about a young woman named Katarina Bishop, who walked away from her family of cat burglars in search of a normal life. When her father is the prime suspect in the robbery of a gangster’s art collection, Katarina puts together a team to steal the artwork back.
It’ll be a while before Heist Society is ready to go in front of the camera, so Barrymore is likely to helm How To Be Single first, before moving onto the heist movie.
