She released an album last year, and now Scarlett Johansson wants to bring her singing skills to the movies, as the Irish paper The Post reports that Once writer/director John Carney is working on a new music-themed movie called Can a Song Save Your Life? and Johansson is set to star.
Set in New York, the film tells the story of a washed-up A&R man who forms a passionate bond with a young singer-songwriter (Scarlett Johansson) from out of town. Jim Carrey and Mark Ruffalo are two names being thrown around for the main male role. The movie will give Johansson to sing a number of songs in the film, hopefully impressing people in the way her album did (although to be honest, the reaction was that people were surprised it wasn’t bad, rather than it being a masterpiece).
Carney says, Ive been writing it for a year and a half. I went out to Los Angeles to meet Scarlett a couple of months ago. She was everything you could imagine very hot, elegant and shes really smart.” He hopes to start shooting in New York next year.
Once meanwhile is set to become an off-Broadway musical later this year.
