Whoever would have thought the dad off Malcolm In The Middle would do so well for himself? Since that show came to an end and he starting appearing in Breaking Bad, Bryan Cranston has become fairly in demand in Hollywood, getting roles in the likes of John Carter, Rock Of Ages and Total Recall. Now THR reports that he’s in talks for Ben Affleck’s true-life tale, Argo.
If he signs on, Cranston will portray Jack O’Donnell, a CIA agent who used to be President Eisenhower’s personal bodyguard. The project is based on the true story of an unusual plan to rescue six American hostages in Iran. Ben Affleck (who also directs) will star as Tony Mendez, the mastermind behind a plan to convince the Iranians that the hostages they’re holding are actually members of a Hollywood film crew who are scouting locations in Iran for a fake sci-fi movie called Argo. The hostages used these fake identities to flee the country unscathed. Alan Arkin is also onboard as Hollywood producer Lester Siegel, while John Goodman plays special effects artist John Chambers, who both participated in the complex ruse.
Chris Terrio is adapting the screenplay from a 2007 Wired Magazine article written by Joshua Bearman. It’s not certain when Argo will start shooting, but it’s believed to be in the next few months.
