The Raven is an intriguing movie, taking real-life events, mixing them with fiction and creating something potentially very interesting. Now the first official image from the movie has been released (although there was a semi-official one released before), which shows John Cusack looking rather determined as Edgar Allan Poe.
Here’s the synopsis: ‘In the gritty thriller, Edgar Allen Poe joins forces with a young Baltimore detective (Luke Evans) to hunt down a mad serial killer whos using Poes own works as the basis in a string of brutal murders. Directed by James McTeigue (V For Vendetta), the film also stars Alice Eve, Brendan Gleeson and Oliver Jackson-Cohen.’
It is meant to be set during the last few weeks of Poe’s life, a strange time when no one knows what really happened. He left Richmond, Virginia on September 27th, 1849, supposedly heading straight home to New York. For a week after that, nobody really knows what happened to him (although there were unconfirmed sightings in various places), until he was found on the streets of Baltimore on October 3rd, in a delirious state. He died a few days later, never becoming coherent enough to tell people what had happened. Even now the cause of his death is unknown, and The Raven is meant to be helping fill that in with the story of a serial killer!
The movie should be out later this year.
