He’s impressed people recently with his weight loss (small objects no longer go into orbit around him and which seems to have removed several of his chins), and now John Goodman has a new film role where he can show off his rather slimmer frame.
Variety reports that John Goodman is in talks to join the cast of Ben Affleck’s drama Argo, for Warner Bros, joining Alan Arkin as the only cast members announced so far.
The film is based on a 2007 Wired magazine article, which details an intriguing plan hatched by the CIA, the Canadian government, and the movie industry to rescue six American hostages in Iran in the late-70s. The ploy involved convincing the hostage-takers that the hostages were actually crew members doing a location scout in Iran for a Hollywood sci-fi movie entitled Argo. When the Iranians were convinced of these fake identities, the hostages, who were American diplomats, were allowed to leave the country.
John Goodman will play Oscar-winning makeup artist John Chambers, who helped sell the fake movie ruse to the Iranians. Alan Arkin is portraying Hollywood movie producer Lester Siegel in the drama. Several other behind-the-scenes Hollywood names were also involved in the plot
Ben Affleck is directing Argo from a screenplay by Chris Terrio. It’s not known exactly when Argo will start shooting, but it’s believed to be in the next few months.
