After Natalie Portman bailed and the film played directorial musical chairs for a while, it’s back to casting on Pride And Prejudice And Zombie, the adaptation of Seth Grahame-Smith’s book, which take Jane Austen’s prose and then adds in an attack of the undead.
THR reports that Emma Stone, staying true to her Zombieland roots, has been offered the the lead role of Elizabeth Bennet in the film, although it’s not know yet if she will accept. Apparently the makers also flirted with Mia Wasikowska and Anne Hathaway, but neither of them stuck.
Stone is a great choice though. She’s an actress with real talent, who can handle drama and a period frock, while being perky and droll enough to take on a zombie invasion. Let’s hope she agrees and signs up.
This long-delayed adaptation of the Seth Grahame-Smith novel is now being directed by Fright Night’s Craig Gillespie, although it’s still not known when it will shoot. The plan had been to get it ready for a 2012 release, but that’s looking less and less likely.
