Woody Allen’s films may not make the kind of cash they used to (although Midnight In Paris is doing well, and is likely to become his highest grossing movie in the US since Hannah And Her Sisters in 1986), star names still flock to work with, and that hasn’t changed since he’s started making all his movies in Europe.
Recently it was said Alex Baldwin and Jesse Eisenberg were in talks to join his next movie, which will be set in Rome, but now the director has announced a lot more cast members and confirmed the movie’s title – The Bop Decameron. It will also be an increasingly rare trip in front of the camera for Allen. Starring, in alphabetical order, are: Woody Allen, Alec Baldwin, Roberto Benigni, Penélope Cruz, Judy Davis, Jesse Eisenberg, Greta Gerwig and Ellen Page. Co-stars include Antonio Albanese, Fabio Armiliata, Alessandra Mastronardi, Ornella Muti, Flavio Parenti, Alison Pill, Riccardo Scamarcio and Alessandro Tiberi.
The mysterious title gives only a few hints as to what the movie is about, and as always, Woody isn’t giving much away. However it’ll start shooting in the Italian capital on July 11th. Allen has said it’ll be a proper comedy, but that’s about all. The title could mean a million things, although ‘bop’ may refer to jazz, one of Woody’s passion. The Decameron meanwhile is a collection of 100 tales by Giovanni Boccaccio, written in the 14th Century, most of which are about love and ardour. It would seem then we’re getting a jazzy comedy about love, although that is currently speculation. (Source: Variety)
