Is this the beginning of a flurry of John Le Carre adaptations? Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is due out later this year, and now THR reports that Control and The American director Anton Corbijn is planning to take on the author’s 2008 book, A Most Wanted Man.
The novel, ‘tells the story of the Chechian Muslim Issa who illegally immigrates to Hamburg, where he gets caught up in the international war on terror. The tale is loosely based on the real-life story of Murat Kurnaz, a Turkish citizen and legal German resident who was seized by American authorities, with knowledge of the German government and taken to Guantanamo Bay. He was kept there for several years before being released, without charge, in 2006.’
The film will mostly be shot in Hamburg, whose regional film board has stumped up $1.3 million towards the budget, which is quite nice of them considering the book doesn’t exactly paint the German authorities in a good light. Andrew Bovell, who wrote Edge Of Darkness, is on scripting duties, with the plan being to shoot either late this year or early next.
