I’m pretty sure that within a year or two, the only people working in Hollywood will be those who started life behind-the-scenes on a JJ Abrams TV show. It seems virtually everyone who’s ever had a producing or writing credit of the likes of Lost, Alias or Fringe has since launched a major film career, many due to the loyalty of Abrams, who’s given them a movie break.
Now Deadline reports that Damon Lindelof, co-creator of Lost and the man perhaps most responsible for the series over its run, has signed a lucrative seven-figure deal to write a secretive sci-fi project for Disney, which is only known as 1952. It is said that 1952 is also being eyed as a multi-platform project, which would expand beyond the movie.
Nothing is known about the plot, inlcluding whether 1952 is a clue about the film’s setting, or just a random codename, but this will be Damon Lindelof’s first solo movie project as a writer/producer. He does have movie form though, having co-written and produced the 2009 blockbuster Star Trek alongside Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman (all three of them JJ Abrams TV alumni), teaming up with them agin to write and produced Jon Favreau’s upcoming Cowboys & Aliens. Lindelof is also the man who reworked Ridley Scott’s Alien prequel into what is now called Prometheus.
Damon Lindelof will likely start work on 1952 after he finishes the Star Trek 2 script with Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman.
