After the horrific mess that was The Wolfman, not only was it shocking Marvel would trust director Joe Johnson with a film like Captain America, but Universal was seriously considering making a sequel. That’s particularly surprising seeing as The Wolman didn’t even gross its $150 million budget at cinemas, making a follow-up seem slightly foolhardy.
Universal now seems to think so too, as Moviehole reports that Michael Tabb’s sequel script is being rewritten and reworked as an original film. The title has yet to be decided, but Werewolf is a possibility. The studio is said to be talking to prospective directors over the next couple of weeks and casting will begin shortly thereafter.
Very sensibly, it’s said the new film will be more in line with the original 1941 The Wolf Man, directed by George Waggner, rather than the execrable gothic crap we that was foist upon us last year. Shooting will most likely begin in this autumn.
