Movie Muser has a bit of a soft spot for Matthew Goode, as like the site, he was born in Exeter. He’s certainly done pretty well for himself, starring in Watchmen, Bridehead Revisited, A Single Man, Leap Year and the like, but never quite jumped to leading man status. Now it seems he’ll be taking the main male tole in Park Chan Wook’s English-language debut, Stoker, according to Variety.
Wook, famed for the likes of Thirst and Oldboy, is taking on the script by Wentworth Miller (yes, the one from Prison Break, although he’s written it under the pen name, Ted Foulke), about a young woman (Mia Wasikowska) who is mourning the loss of her father. Matthew Goode would portray the mysterious uncle who shows up unexpectedly after the death. Nicole Kidman has been cast as the girl’s mother.
Goode’s done very well to land the part, as the likes of Colin Firth, James Franco, Michael Fassbender, and Joel Edgerton were all said to have been circling it. He may not be as famous as them, but he’s a good actor, and should be good, as long as Wentworth Miller’s a better writer than he is an actor, of course.
