20th Century Fox is moving forward with a new animated version of King Kong by hiring Christian Magalhaes and Bob Snow to write the script, according to Deadline. The idea is to offer a fresh, modern-day take on the legendary ape, by telling the story from his perspective – so maybe we’ll finally find out why he gets the hot human women who are a different species and about a tenth the size of him.
Mike Weber came up with the original concept and will produce. Night At The Museum director Shawn Levy will also produce through his 21 Laps company.
The last time we saw the enormous ape on the big screen was in 2005 with Peter Jackson’s King Kong, which grossed $550 million worldwide. More recently, Spirit Pictures was trying to get a prequel story up and running, based on the book, ‘Kong: King Of Skull Island’, but that idea seems to have fallen by the wayside.
