It seems that sometimes paying your dues in Hollywood can pay off, as Fast Five director Justin Lin is teaming up with Universal Pictures to produce an untitled sci-fi project, and he’s setting it up as the feature debut of his Fast & Furious assistant, Bobby Glickert.
THR reports that the movie is based on Glickert’s pitch, although it’s early days as the studio is just now seeking out a screenwriter. Little is known about the story of this untitled project, although it is said to be a cross between Heat and the Jason Bourne series. Here’s what Justin Lin had to say about this new movie: “Taking a step back, as a viewer, the tone and the gritty approach to the sci-fi genre taken here is something that hasn’t been seen in a while.”
Glickert’s been an assistant on the likes of Iron Man and Transformers, and directed a couple of shorts, but this certainly marks a big step up for him. It’s nice to know that in Hollywood, which is known for being a cutthroat world that’ll chew people up and ignore them, that if you have a good idea, there are still people like Lin who’ll help you get a leg up.
