He’s won two Emmys for his work on TV, but director Don Scardino is yet to make a feature film. However that’s about to change as Variety reports that he’s signed on to helm the New Line comedy Burt Wonderstone, with Steve Carell attached to star. Back in February, Charles McDougall was in the director’s chair, but it appears he’s now moved on.
Carell will play a popular Las Vegas magician who gets upstaged by a hip new illusionist, and must find a way to reclaim his love of illusion to make a comeback. John Francis Daley (Bones’ Dr. Sweets) and Jonathan M. Goldstein wrote the most recent version of the screenplay, but it’s been around for a while, as New Line has been developing the comedy since 2006 when it purchased Chad Kultgen’s spec screenplay.
Scardino won his Emmys for his work as a director and producer on the hit NBC comedy 30 Rock, so he’s certainly got comedy epdigree. He has also directed episodes of Royal Pains, Rescue Me, and Law & Order, to name just a few.
The movie is schedule to start filming in October.
