While I’m still a little msytified as to how Adam Sandler has managed to sustain a career, he’s still a big cheese in the comedy world, and for the past few months he and Andy Samberg have been attached to I Love You, Dad. Now that movie has a new star, as THR reports that Susan Sarandon has joined the Columbia Pictures flick.
I Hate You, Dad is about a father (Sandler) who makes life extremely difficult for his son (Samberg) when he moves in just before the son’s wedding. Leighton Meester will portray Andy Samberg’s fiancee, while Ian Ziering has been cast as a drugged-out version of himself, and Vanilla Ice should also show up in an altered take on his own persona. Variety adds that Milo Ventimiglia will be an Iraq war veteran who loves his sister – played by Meester – just a little too much.
Susan Sarandon, meanwhile, will be a sexy teacher called Mary McGarricle, who bedded Sandler as a teenager and gave birth to Samberg’s character. It’s a major role, with Columbia apparently being very picky about who played it, but Sarandon’s now scored the role.
There are lots of other actors also in talks for the movie, including James Caan, Will Forte, Eva Amurri (Sarandon’s real-life daughter), Blake Clark, Meagan Fay, Tony Orlando and Dan Patrick, although it isn’t known what roles they’re up for.
Sean Anders and John Morris (Sex Drive, Mr. Popper’s Penguins) will direct, with shooting starting this summer.
