First Look At Merida From Pixar’s Brave – A Scottish princess who can kick some ass

27th May 2011 By Tim Isaac

While Disney/Pixar’s Brave is due out next summer, we haven’t heard or seen a huge amount about the movie, other than a few concept images, as well as news of cast and crew changes. However now a new image has emerged that gives us our first look at lead character Princess Merida as she appears in the movie.

The pic above is actually the bottom half of a concept image comparison, showing how it was originally envisaged against what it will eventually look like. You can see that comparison below.

It’s a bit of a different look for Pixar, dealing with more realistic humans than they’ve normally gone for. If you want to know what it’s all about, here’s a plot description: ‘The rugged and mysterious Highlands of Scotland serve as the backdrop for Brave, a new tale that joins the lands ancient lore, stories of epic battles and mystical legends passed down for generations. Directed by Mark Andrews and Brenda Chapman, and produced by Katherine Sarafian, Brave is the grand adventure of Merida (voice of Kelly Macdonald), a skilled archer who confronts tradition, destiny and the fiercest of beasts to discover the true meaning of courage. The film also features the voices of Emma Thompson, Billy Connolly, Julie Walters, Kevin McKidd, Craig Ferguson and Robbie Coltrane.’ It’s due out summer 2012. (Thanks to /Film for the heads up)
