After impressing the world with Sin Nombre, Cary Fukunaga went it period flick territory with a new version of Jane Eyre, and now she’s head for the American Civil War as she’s just signed on to direct the heist film No Blood, No Guts, No Glory, according to Variety.
Previously set up at Paramount, but now being made by Focus Features, the project is described as The Dirty Dozen set during the Civil War, and follows a spy and 20 Union soldiers in disguise who board a train in Georgia in order to pull off a heist that could bring a quick end to the Civil War. The project is a fictionalized account of America’s first special forces operation, based on the real-life Civil War commando mission that inspired Buster Keaton’s The General.
Cary Fukunaga is currently working on the screenplay with Chase Palmer, but there’s no info on when it might shoot.
Interestingly, the Variety piece also mentioned the Fukunaga might have gone super-mainstream, as he was being eyed for the next Wolverine movie, but is no longer in the running for that.
