Vin Diesel is trying to escape from people only wanting to see him in Fast & Furious movies again, as he’s attached to star in and produce a new original project entitled The Machine, which MGM is backing, according to Deadline.
Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant (Night at the Museum, Reno 911!) wrote the screenplay, which focuses on a ‘human-like machine’ (which is actually a pretty good description of Diesel) created by the government as its new ultimate weapon. However, the robot was decommissioned and buried, but 20 years later, a young boy discovers The Machine. When the government learns that The Machine has been reactivated, the robot must protect the boy’s family who took him in.
The Machine, which is being billed as an action-comedy, should start shooting in the autumn, and marks MGMs first original new movie since its bankruptcy and restructuring. Lennon and Garant previously worked with Diesel on the family comedy The Pacifier in 2005, with The Machine sounding like basically the same film, except this time pretending Vin is a robot.
