CBS Films (via ComingSoon) has released the first image from Gambit, which you can see above. The movie, written by the Coen Brothers, has been struggling to get made for quite a while, but it’s now being shot, with Michael Hoffman (The Last Station) directing and Colin Firth and Cameron Diaz starring.
The press release that went out with the image confirmed that Alan Rickman and Tom Courtenay will also be in the movie, while adding that Stanley Tucci and Cloris Leachman have signed up.
The film, a loose remake of a1966 Michael Caine and Shirley MacLaine flick, is about British art curator Harry Deane (Firth), who devises a finely-crafted scheme to con England’s richest man and avid art collector, Lionel Shabandar (Rickman), into purchasing a fake Monet painting. In order to bait his buyer, he recruits a Texas rodeo queen (Diaz) to cross the pond and pose as a woman whose grandfather liberated the painting at the end of WWII.
