Although the film is called The Fallen, luckily it doesn’t have anything to do with the rubbish villain of Transformers 2. Instead it’s a rather intriguing sounding flick that Lionsgate UK has just boarded. They’ll reteam with Harry Brown producer Kris Thykier to produce the high-concept sci-fi, which Irish director Ruairi Robinson will helm, according to Variety.
Budgeted at $35 million, the film is about an alien spaceship that crash lands in Russia. When it creates a 400-mile electronic dead-zone, international special ops teams are sent in to neutralise it.
The original script is by Andrew Will, who’s was also behind the first screenplay for Archangel, which Tron: Legacy helmer, Joseph Kosinski is currently attached to direct. Adam Kozard is currently rewriting that alien hunting script.
The Fallen will mark Ruairi Robinson’s feature debut, although he is a name that’s often come up as being someone studios are interested in for movies, but he’s never actually made one. For a while he was attacher to Warner’s Akira remake, but that didn’t pan out. Now he’s going outside the studio system in the hope he finally gets to make a movie, following a great reception for his shorts.
