Quentin Tarantino and Will Smith may not be the most obvious fusion, but it looks like it might well happen, as the Fresh Prince is the frontrunner to play the title role in the director’s upcoming movie, Django Unchained. At the moment no official offer has been made, partly because Tarantino is yet to find a studio partner to release the film internationally, and until that happens, he won’t know exactly what he can offer Will.
The film is about a slave in the Old West who teams up with a German bounty hunter to help track down his missing wife and to take down an evil plantation owner. Will Smith will play the slave, named Django, if he signs on, and it is said that Quentin Tarantino wrote the bounty hunter role with Christoph Waltz in mind, although the actor is yet to officially sign on.
Samuel L. Jackson is also eyeing a role in the flick, playing the house slave to the villain, Monsieur Calvin Candie, who will face off against Django.
Shooting on Django Unchained is likely to start in the autumn.
