Is Bradley Cooper so popular because he’s such a great talent, or is he just cheaper than everyone else? Whatever it is, he’s ridiculously in demand, so that only yesterday we reported that he’s keen to play Lucifer in Paradise Lost and now he’s been offered a role in The Place Beyond the Pines, which Derek Cianfrance is putting together.
As well as Cooper, who they’re currently trying to woo, Ryan Gosling has already signed onto the film, which will reunite him with Cianfrance following Blue Valentine. According to Variety ‘Gosling will portray a professional motorcycle rider who turns to bank robberies to support his newborn son, but when he crosses paths with a rookie police officer – the role Cooper is being lined up to play – their confrontation spirals into a generational feud.’
Cianfrance has previously people havve told his it feels like, ‘The Deer Hunter meets The Godfather’, which is quite a bold claim, but is probably helpful when you’re trying to find funding. The Place Beyond The Pines will try and sell distribution rights at Cannes this month, with a summer shoot planned.
There’s no real info on whether Cooper is even vaguely interested in the role, but he’s been offered it, and we’ll have to wait and see if he takes it.
