An adaptation of the 16-million selling book What to Expect When You’re Expecting has been in the works for quite a while. Now it appears things are ready to move forward, as Variety reports Cameron Diaz is close to signing on for the lead role in Lionsgate’s flick.
While the book is pretty much a self-help tome for those up the duff, the movie will of course be slightly more narrative. The original plan was to follow seven couples as they experienced the various joys and problems of pregnancy, but that’s now been pared down to five couples.
Shauna Cross (Whip It!) and Heather Hach (Freaky Friday) adapted the book, while Kirk Jones (Everybody’s Fine) will direct. Production is scheduled to begin in July on What to Expect When You’re Expecting, after Cameron Diaz wraps production on Gambit, which started shooting yesterday. There’s no specific info on Diaz’s character in What to Expect When You’re Expecting though, although it’s a safe bet some pregnancy padding will be involved.
