The cast of Rock Of Ages is growing and growing, with the latest signing up being Watchmen star Malin Akerman, who’ll join Mary J. Blige, Tom Cruise, Bryan Cranston, Alec Baldwin, Julianne Hough, Paul Giamatti, Diego González Boneta, Catherine Zeta-Jones in the hair metal musical.
According to Deadline, the actress will portray Constance, an aggressive music journalist who is hell-bent on writing an expose of rocker Stacee Jaxx (Tom Cruise), but ends up having an affair with him. The role attracted top-flight talent, although a few upcoming superhero projects provided some casting detours for this role.
Warner Bros. originally offered the role to Anne Hathaway, although she eventually stepped away once she signed on as Selina Kyle in The Dark Knight Rises. Amy Adams was offered the role next, although she too had to turn it down when she landed the Lois Lane role in Man of Steel. Now the role has finally been cemented with Malin Akerman. It is said that the role calls for a duet with Tom Cruise, singing Foreigner’s I Want To Know What Love Is.
Adam Shankman is directing Rock of Ages from a screenplay by Chris D’Arienzo, who adapted his own Broadway stage musical. Production will start next month in Florida.
