Roger Donaldson has had an interesting career, as he’s been around since the 80s, making movies like Cocktail, Species and Dante’s Peak, mixing big dumb Hollywood films with more interesting flicks like The Bank Job and Thirteen Days. He’s now signed on to direct the financial thriller Cities, which Variety reports will star Clive Owen and Anil Kapoor.
Cities is a cautionary tale about greed and ambition set against the Dow Jones all-time stock market high. The film will interweave the stories of a New York hedge fund manager, a young London couple looking to buy their first home and a Mumbai cop fighting corruption. While Kapoor is presumably the Mumbai cop, it’s not 100% clear which of the other roles Owen is up for.
Donaldson will also co-write the screenplay, based on the original script Extreme Cities, written by Glenn Wilhide. Production is set to begin in October in London, Mumbai and New York.
It could be an interesting flick, although before then Donaldson’s got to release the Nic Cage flick, The Hunry Rabbit Jumps, which has to be worth a look, if only because of the bizarre name.
