It seems a couple of episodes of CSI have given Justin bieber acting fever (although I’m sure some fans will need counselling after what happened at the end of his second CSI stint), as last month it was revealed he is in talks to star in the comedy What Would Kenny Do? alongside Ashton Kutcher, and now he appears to want to do an inner-city drama with Mark Wahlberg.
Vulture spoke to Wahlberg about it, who said, “Yeah, well, we’re putting it together. Yeah, we’re doing it at Paramount. We pitched them the idea, and we talked to him about doing it and he loved the idea. He sent me a video of himself and yeah, I think he’s really talented.”
When asked if it would be a drama or comedy, Mark Wahlberg revealed it will centre around mentoring in an inner-city environment, “More of a drama. It’s interesting, right? You want to know. They’ll probably announce it. They may announce it fairly soon … kind of like a reluctant mentor in an inner-city environment. You know, I don’t want to say.”
Deadline has since revealed more info, saying it will be about street basketball and will give Bieber the chance to show off his hoops skills. The script will be written by Ian Edelman, with the tone described as The Color of Money meets The Karate Kid. The idea apparently emerged after Wahlberg and producer Stephen Levinson saw Bieber play ball in February during a celebrity game held during NBA All-Star Game weekend, for which the singer was awarded MVP.
