For a while now, Zac Efron has been keen to Die In A Gunfight, and while crueller film fans will be wishing that isn’t just the name of a movie, it is indeed a film. Up until now it’s just been one of many projects on Efron’s list, but the movie has now found a director, with Deadline reporting that Anthony Mandler is attached to helm.
The script, by Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari, landed on 2010’s coveted Black List of the best unproduced screenplays, and is about a fight-prone and death-obsessed young society man who pursues a romance with the daughter of his fathers enemy.
Mandler doesn’t have any film credits at the moment, but he’s well known for his music videos, such as Rihanna’s ‘Only Girl’ (he’s directed most of her videos) and Muse’s ‘Neutron Star Collision (Love Is Forever)’, as well as numerous commercials. Mandler is also attached to helm Summit Entertainment action-oriented take on the origins of Dracula, called Vlad.
There’s no news however on when Die In A Gunfight might start shooting – although Zac will have to hope it’s soon, as it’s certainly a project that sounds like it might help people take him seriously as a grown up actor.
