Green Lantern is only a couple of months away – it’s released June 17th – and now two new character posters have been released, featuring Sinestro (Mark Strong) and Kilowog (voiced by Michael Clarke Duncan). You can take a look at those below, plus a previously released one for Tomar-re, just so we have the full set of Lanterny-aliens.
But the real question is will the film be finished in time? The answer is almost certainly yes, but Warner Bros has had to chuck an extra $9 million into the effects budget to ensure that. Apparently with so many effects heavy tent-pole pics in the works for release this summer, VFX companies are working at capacity to try and get everything ready in time. With Warner already paranoid about Green Lantern after a mixed reaction to Ryan Reynolds’ CG suit in the first trailer, they’re willing to cough up extra cash to make sure nothing about the film looks rushed or under-par, just there wasn’t enough time, money or people to do it properly and hit the release date.
FX houses have apparently been warning studios about this lack of time for months, but they’re only now realising just how much pressure there is to hit the necessary release dates (which the studios have guaranteed to cinemas, meaning they’ll lose millions if they don’t hit them). Variety says those working on Transformers: Dark Of The Moon have been doing 12-hour days, seven a week (including through Easter) to hit the deadlines, while there’s also pressure on the likes of Captain America. Some feel that there’s a good chance one big movie this year will miss its release date, simply because there isn’t time to finish it. We’ll have to wait and see if that happens, but it’s certain Warner is doing everything in its power to ensure it isn’t Green Lantern that suffers that fate, even if it means opening the cheque book to the tune of an extra $9 million.
