This should come as absolutely no suprise to anyone, but it’s been confirmed that sequels are in the works for both Thor and Captain America, and that Marvel is eyeing spinning-off numerous other characters they’ve introduced in their crossover movies.
We already knew a Captain America follow-up was in the works, as Stephen McFeely & Christopher Markus have been hired to write, although at the time they were talking to MTV about it, they were unsure if the sequel would take the Cap back into the past, or continue on from The Avengers with him now in the modern world. However it now appears the latter is more likely.
Now Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has been talking and told D23 Magazine (via IGN), “Thor will go off into a new adventure, and Captain America will continue to explore the modern world in another film of his own. We hope that holds true for the characters appearing in that film Black Widow, Hawkeye, and the spy organization, S.H.I.E.L.D. all of whom are more than worthy and capable of carrying their own films.
“And, weve got a lot of other characters were prepping and getting ready for film debuts: the world of martial arts, these great cosmic space fantasies, Dr. Strange, and the magic side of the Marvel Universe. There are many, many stories to be mined.”
It’s not exactly a lot of information, or confirmation of any – and of course, if any of the currently scheduled movies flop, any sequel plans may be put on hold. But it least it’s nice to now Marvel have post-Avengers plans that go further than just making another Iron Man movie.
