Although they’d been rumoured and it was almost certain they’d appear in The Dark Knight Rises, the one thing we’d lacked for Marion Cotillard and Joseph Gordon-Levitt was official confirmation they’d be part of the third bat flick. However now we’ve got it, with Warner Bros issuing a press release that confirms not only that the two are signed on, but what roles they’lll play.
The parts are particularly important, as with no official confirmation the net has been abuzz with rumours, with some sites more or less deciding Cotillard would be Talia Al’s Ghul and Gordon Levitt would be Hugo Strange. However as with so many things that buzz around Chris Nolan’s super-secret projects, that turns out to be completely wrong.
According to the press release, ‘Cotillard will appear as Miranda Tate, a Wayne Enterprises board member eager to help a still-grieving Bruce Wayne resume his fathers philanthropic endeavors for Gotham. Gordon-Levitt will play John Blake, a Gotham City beat cop assigned to special duty under the command of Commissioner Gordon.’
Both actors appeared in Inception, and Nolan says, “When you collaborate with people as talented as Marion and Joe, it comes as no surprise that you would want to repeat the experience. I immediately thought of them for the roles of Miranda and Blake, and I am looking forward to working with both of them again.”
The Dark Knight Rises will hit cinemas on July 20th, 2012.
