I think this might be the last story I write about Tom Hardy being offered a role in a movie, as from now on I reckon we should all just assume that if there’s a hot role in Hollywood for a man, Hardy has been offered it.
The latest role he’s wanted for is in the Timur Bekmambetov directed adaptation of Seth Grahame’s Abraham Lincoln: Vampite Hunter. The story reimagines the American president as an axe-wielding, highly trained vampire hunter. The book gives new context to Lincoln’s rise to the presidency as well as the American Civil War (which was fought because the vampires were in league with the slave owners), suggesting these events were a lot more paranormal than history tells us, and stemmed from Lincoln’s mother’s murder by a vampire when he was a child.
Hardy isn’t up for the role of Lincoln himself, but according to Bloody Disgusting would play Henry Sturgess, a vampire who befriends a young Lincoln and trains him in the ways of killing the undead. Then over the years he sends Abe the names of evil bloodsuckers to be dispatched. It’s a meaty supporting role, but it’s not known whether Hardy will be interested. He’s said to have turned down Snow White and the Huntsman so he can concentrate on his part in The Dark Knight Rises, and it may be the same here. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is scheduled for a summer 2012 release.
