In what is undoubtedly the most exciting film news of the year, it’s been announced that Michael J. Bassett (Solomon Kane) will write and direct Silent Hill: Revelation 3D. Like me, you’re probably wondering why it’s taken so long to make a follow-up to the masterpiece that was the 2006 adaptation of the videogame. Oh right, it’s because it was shit and flopped at the box office.
However they’re not going to let that stop them, and indeed they do seem to be going about it the right way, with a new film that’s also kind of a reboot, keeping the titular town, but going for a completely different story, somewhat based on the Silent Hill 3 game.
According to Bloody Disgusting, ‘The sequel follows heather Mason, along with her father, who have been on the run – always one step ahead of dangerous forces that she doesn’t full understand, Now on the eve of her 18th birthday, plagued by horrific nightmares and the disappearance of her father, Heather discovers she’s not who she thinks she is. The revelation leads her deeper into a demonic world that threatens to trap her in Silent Hill forever.’
Bassett did okay with Solomon Kane, so maybe this will be fine too, but I wouldn’t get too excited just yet if I were you. Oh, and as you may have guessed from the title, the movie will be shot natively in 3D.
