Andrew Dominik isn’t exactly the most prolific of directors. He made a splash with Chopper in 2000, followed it with The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford in 2007, and while he been rumoured for and attached to various things since then, there’s been nothing definite.
However it appears he’s now trying to put together a heist comedy he’s written called Cogan’s Trade, and according to Variety, he’s trying to get his Jesse James star, Brad Pitt, to take the lead role. Pitt is currently in negotiations for the film, which he would also produce through his Plan B production company.
The movie focusses on on the man behind the hit man – a professional enforcer who investigates a heist that takes place during a poker game under protection of the mob. It appears that this is the same Dominik directed project Casey Affleck was recently rumoured for. When his name first came up, everything was shrouded in secrecy, apparently because while the script is based on a book by the late George Higgins, the writer/director only secured the rights in the last week.
THR adds another couple of names to the list of those who might be involved, saying Sam Rockwell, Mark Ruffalo and Javier Bardem may also sign on.
