As most expected, Saw 3D managed to outpace Paranormal Activity 2 at the US box office this weekend, taking $24.2 million, versus $16.5 for the sequel to last years surprise hit. However that’s significantly less than Paranormal Activity 2’s first weekend take, and despite the addition of 3D, it’s less than the opening weekend of any of the Saw sequels, barring last year’s entry, which tanked with only $14 million in its opening three days.
It means that while there’s been talk of making more Saw flicks if this one proves a success, as yet it doesn’t look like audiences are all that interested anymore, despite the addition of 3D. Elsewhere on the chart, a third dimension has certainly worked wonders for Jackass 3D, which crossed the $100 million mark and is now by far the most successful movie in the film series.
While Saw 3D was the only new release in the top 10, Conviction, starring HIlary Swank, expanded onto more screens and jumped from 25th to 10th spot, taking $1.8 million in its third weekend. However that more proves the lack of depth to the box office office that that the film is on its way to becoming a significant success.
Take a look below for the US box office top 10 for the weekend of October 29th-31st.
