While it’s generally been referred to as Batman 3, we’ve always known that Chris Nolan’s third Caped Crusader movie would have a different title, we just didn’t know what it was. However now Nolan has been talking to the guys over at HeroComplex and revealed that the movie will be called, The Dark Knight Rises.
It’s a slightly odd choice, as it sounds more like the title of the first film in a series rather than the third, especially as Batman was the Dark Knight in the second movie (as was Harvey Dent), so why does he need to ‘rise’ in the next one? Hopefully all will be revealed when the film arrives in cinemas in 2012.
However that wasn’t the only thing Nolan had to say. When asked about the villain of the piece, he said It wont be the Riddler.” That’s going to be a surprise to many, as the idea The Riddler was the main baddie had gone from rumour to assumed fact, and there was even talk about Joseph Gordon-Levitt being attached to the role.
The director wouldn’t be drawn on who the villain is though, although he has previously discounted the idea of Mr. Freeze. That said, there have been suggestions today that the main villain could be Catwoman, due to MovieHole reporting that Christopher Nolan has started meeting with actresses in their ‘late 20?s, early 30?s’ for the ‘female lead’ role in the movie. The presumption is that Nolan is looking for a Catwoman, but that’s laregely speculation. One interesting idea however is that as Nolan has suggested this will be his final Bat movie and he wants to keep them all tied closely together, it could be Talia al Ghul, daughter of Ra’s al Ghul from the first film. It might be a good way to make the plot come full circle, but at the moment we don’t officially know what the role is, and it may not be a villain at all.
So it’s The Dark Knight Rises and there’ll be no Riddler. What do you guys think?
