For quite a long time now, Bryan Singer has been putting together Jack The Giant Killer, his refashioned version of the classic fairy story about a young man who climbs a beanstalk to rescue a princess and kill the rather massive villain, in the hope of restoring the balance of peace between humans and giants. Indeed, when he Singer quickly stepped in as director of X-Men: First Class before leaving a couple of weeks later, it was because New Line was keen that he get his giant killing movie ready as soon as possible and so locked him into a holding deal.
Now Deadline reports that the movie has got the greenlight and will start shooting next spring. The reason it’s taken so long to get the go-ahead is because the flick needed massive amount of visual effects prep work, and there were also issues with the script, with Christopher McQuarrie (Usual Suspects) brought in to jazz up Darren Lemke and Mark Bomback’s screenplay.
That leaves the question of who will play Jack. A few months back, it was rumoured Singer was meeting the likes of Aaron Johnson and Andrew Garfield about the role, and while Deadline reports Johnson is still a hot favourite, Garfield is, of course, off the table due to the Spider-man reboot. However the Kick-ass star isn’t a lock either. Singer and New Line meeting numerous other people, with the role said to be the most coveted part for young male actors around at the moment. However now the movie has the greenlight, expect an announcement soon.
