The cast of Men In Black III is certainly shaping up well. Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones will both return, while Josh Brolin is set to play a younger version of Jones’ character, Emma Thompson is onboard as the MIB boss, while Jermaine Clement will be the villain. And now it appears the producers are busy lining up actors for numerous other roles.
Pajiba has an early casting report that suggests Alex Baldwin, Sharlto Copley and Gemma Arterton are all in talks for the film, which will see Smith’s Agent Jay being sent back in time to 1969 after a villainous alien called Yaz goes back to the 60s to kill the young Agent Kay. If he does that, it will set off a chain of events that will result in the destuction of the world!
Baldwin is apparently being lined up to play the head of MIB in the 1960s (with Thompson as the boss in the present day), while Arterton will be a secretary. Although Gemma’s role doesn’t exactly sound that great, this was the late 60s, and therefore only the beggining of the fight for sexual equality, and it’s easy to imagine that the character gets to show off her stuff in the male-dominated environment, and perhaps is later revealed to have aged into Emma Thompson’s department head.
Copley meanwhile would play a play a fast-talking Yoda type alien, although there’s no news on how big the role is, and whether he’d be a goodie or a baddie. Apparently Nicole Sherzinger has also been offered a cameo as the villain’s girlfriend.
Shooting on MIB III is expected to start in November, with Barry Sonnefeld back behind the camera.
