Who knew that Liev Schreiber liked ice hockey? Actually, maybe he doesn’t, and instead just likes the fact he’s scored a role in Goon, the hockey comedy that’s due to star Seann William Scott, Jay Baruchel, Alison Pill and Marc-André Grondin.
THR reports that Schreiber will take on the role legendary hockey tough guy Ross Reardon in the film, which is based on the true story of Doug Glatt (Scott), a bouncer who has been touched by the fist of God. Upon discovering both his right hook and skates, he joins a downtrodden hockey team and inspires them into new heights.
Jay Baruchel also wrote the script along with Superbad’s Evan Goldberg, with Michael Dowse directing. Shooting is set to begin in Canada next week.
