If it turns out to be true, it really would be a rather surprising move for director Danny Boyle, but not one that will have fans complaining. Having left the 28 Days Later franchise following the first movie and moving onto the likes of Slumdog Millionaire and 127 Hours, it appears he may be planning to jump back into horror and direct the third film in the 28 Days… series.
The news comes from Dread Central, and while they initially reported he was definitely going to helm the film, they’ve since updated the story to suggest that while he’s interested, nothing has been locked in place yet. They say, ‘For those wondering, this news has come from Boyle himself. The director indicated to a good friend of our site that “there’s another 28 Days Later in the works.” When asked if the title would be 28 Months Later, Boyle replied “In theory, yes.” Immediately the next question was if he’d be producing, to which Boyle responded, “Actually I want to direct it.” There you have it, kids. From the horse’s mouth.’
To be honest, it wouldn’t be at all shocking if Boylle flirts with directing the film beofre just taking a producing credit and handing the reins onto to someone else, but following a couple of dramas, it would be nice for Boyle to return to horror.
