It was undoubtedly a pretty slow weekend at the US box office, and as a result The Social Network has topped the chart again, slipping only 31% to take another $15.5 million. That was enough to hold off the challenge from any newcomers, with the dramedy Life As We Know It having to settle for the second spot with $14.6 million and horsing biopic Secretariat coming in third with $12.6 million.
While not an amazing start for either movie, as both cost less than $40 million to make, the backers probably aren’t too upset yet, and will hope their takings hold up over the coming weeks. The only other new entry in the top 10 was Wes Craven’s My Soul To Take, which opened with a less than amazing $6.9 million, suggesting a distinct lack of interest amongst audiences.
Further down the chart, the Zach Galifianakis comedy It’s Kind Of A Funny Story opened in 12th place with $2 million. Although it was playing on less than 750 screens, it still didn’t get a particularly great per screen average, suggesting it may have a tough time expanding and becoming a hit.
