At the beginning of the year it was announced that Warner was planning turn both parts of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows 3D, using post-conversion to turn the originally shot in 2D movie three-dimensional. While many still aren’t certain whether post-coversion is up to the task or rendering a genuinely convincing 3D experience, Warner promised there was plenty of time to get it right.
Well now it appears there isn’t, as the studio has decided to bring out Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 in 2D, saying, ‘We will not have a completed 3D version of the film within our release date window Despite everyones best efforts, we were unable to convert the film in its entirety and meet the highest standards of quality. We do not want to disappoint fans who have long-anticipated the conclusion of this extraordinary journey. We, in alignment with our filmmakers, believe this is the best course to take in order to ensure that our audiences enjoy the consummate Harry Potter experience.’
Although they could have done a rush job, as they did with Clash of The Titans, that resulted in a major backlash, so it appears they’ve decided the 2D route is best. However, the studio still plan to bring out Part 2 in 3D next July, and to be honest, it wouldn’t be shocking if Warner announced a 3D re-release of Part 1 a couple of months before that, just to make a bit more money out of their ultimate cash cow. We’ll have to wait and see.
