In an innovative and rather nifty move, the BFI London Film Festival is going live and nationwide on October 18th with the UK premiere of Mike Leigh’s latest, Another Year. Rather than just having a screening in Leicester Square, the red carpet, film and post screen Q&A will also be simultaneously transmitted to nine other London cinemas, as well as 25 screens around the country, so everyone can join in with the fun!
Mike Leigh and the cast from the film – including Jim Broadbent, Ruth Sheen and Lesley Manville – will attend the screening and participate in the live Q&A, to be broadcast across all sites. The film screens as the Centrepiece Gala of the London Film Festival and will be presented on the night by the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson.
The movie is Mike Leighs eleventh feature film and marks his eighth collaboration with Lesley Manville, his seventh with Jim Broadbent and fifth with Ruth Sheen. The film also stars Oliver Maltman, David Bradley, Peter Wight, Phil Davis and Imelda Staunton and will be released in the UK by Momentum Pictures on November 5.
In having his film receive this simultaneous nationwide premiere as part of the festival, director Mike Leigh comments: This is simply wonderful! It is a great honour to be part of this ground-breaking LFF event, and Im delighted for this opportunity to share Another Year with such a wide audience.
The UK premiere event will begin at 6.50pm with coverage from the red carpet, followed by a live satellite link to the on-stage introduction of the film at the Odeon Leicester Square from Mayor Boris Johnson, festival Artistic Director Sandra Hebron, and Mike Leigh, after which the film will screen across all venues to be followed by a live satellite link to the post screening Q&A with Mike Leigh and the cast.
