There’s been a lot of speculation over Darren Aronofsky’s next project recently, with the Black Swan and Wrestler director recently linked to Superman, Preacher and Tales From the Gangster Squad, and then news came in earlier this week that he was supposedly in negotiations with Fox to helm Wolverine 2. However not it appears that while none of those are completely off the table, the movie he’ll actually make next is The Tiger.
The film was first announced a few months back, with Aronofsky directing and Brad Pitt starring. Based on John Vaillaint’s fact-based book, the story takes place on the Siberian plain, where human development is encroaching on the tigers habitat, and one tiger turns on the intruders. With townspeople being tracked and hunted with an almost supernatural power, a conservationist game warden must face down the tiger. It is a fight that only one of them can win.
The latest info comes from an interview screenwriter Guillermo Arriaga (Babel, 21 Grams, Amores Perros) gave to Quien, which was translated by The Playlist. He says, These days Im traveling to New York to lend clarity to the last detail, in November would be doing a tour of Siberia to check locations. Arriaga adds that once the locations are sorted, shooting should begin early next year.
However, there is a little extra ocnfusion to add to the mix, as The Playlist suggests the Spanish language interview indicates Angelina Jolie will also star in the film, however there’s a bit of uncertainty over this, as the interview could merely be mentioning her because of he relationship with Pitt. We’ll have to wait and see.
It should also be noted, that if Aronofsky does sign onto Wolverine, The Tiger may go on the backburner (after all the screenwriter is often the last to be told anything), as it’s unlikely Fox will want to wait around while Darren completes The Tiger.
