Maybe its because he really likes horror movies, or perhaps he’s just jealous of Rob Zombie’s move from music to film, but legendary Guns ‘n’ Roses guitarist Slash is planning to set up his own horror franchise!
He’s not writing and directing himself, but Deadline reports he’s set up a film company, which teams him with Scout Productions (the company behind Queer Eye For The Straight Guys, as well as the movies Transsiberian, Session 9 and Fog of War). The plan is that Slasher Films will ‘produce edgy contemporary horror fare with a nod to the thrillers of the ’70s and ’80s’.
Their first effort is Nothing To Fear, which follows a young family who want a new life in rural Kansas, but wouldn’t you know it, as soon as they get there, they start being tormented by an ancient demon with an insatiable bloodlust. The film, based on a script by Jonathan W.C. Mills, does sound pretty straight-to-DVD, but Slash and his fellow producers are hoping this will be the start of a franchise.
Seems a bit pointless having Slash onboard, but hey, perhaps he’ll turn out to be a movie mogul in waiting.
